Myths & Fables

Some myth and fables are funny and entertaining, but many myths in the fields of food and medicine can be deadly. A pleasant fable is the story of the unicorn such as the one in the image you clicked to arrive here.

One deadly myth, was the myth that "blood letting", or removing blood from a sick person would drain the sickness causative factors and allow a person to heal. While this seems odd based on current knowledge at the time it was practiced it was the "Standard of Care". Even then there were people who thought ,most doctors were believing in myth. Unfortunately, just as today, if anyone dared speak out they were labeled heretics and ridiculed. Much the same as I will be for calling the following items myths.

As you read over the list below, ask yourself, why do I believe these things to be true. The answer is, you have been exposed to the associated propaganda for most of your life. The Cholesterol myth was created to sell cholesterol lowering dugs and the propaganda surrounding this myth has made the manufacturers of statin drugs trillions of dollars. This is why they can continue distributing the propaganda thus keeping the myth alive for over 50 years.

Perhaps you truly believe these things are true, if you do, please don't take my word it is a myth, click the link and look over the research I have collected then decide for yourself.

Some of the current myths currently propagated in medicine are:
1 - Cholesterol is the cause of heart disease.

Cholesterol has many useful purposed in the body. It provide the structure of every cell in the body, It is needed to make hormones like estrogen, testosterone, etc. It makes the metabolism work more efficiently, by allowing the body to make vitamin D. and it produces bile acid which helps the body digest fat and incidentally it helps the body cover defected in blood vessel walls to prevent leaks and protect the blood cells passing by from damage. Yet to hear the medical profession talk about cholesterol you would think it was an evil toxin.

2 - Eating less fat lowers cholesterol.

As part of the low-fat diet myth discussed below, the myth that eating less fat, specifically saturated fat will lower cholesterol. This was part of the scare tactic and it arose from studies that were contaminated with Trans-fats and had other problems.

3 - Lowering cholesterol protects lengthens life.

This statement is implied in nearly every study reporting the effects of cholesterol, but if you look at the actual studies, you find they never examine the important statistic all-cause-death. They only talk about death from heart problems. As noted above cholesterol is involved in many bodily function in addition to the heart. When you lower your cholesterol you may or may not help the heart, but you are certainly impairing other functions of the body. The few studies looking at all cause death have found interesting facts like: "people over 65 who hive higher cholesterol live longer."(1)

4 -Statin drugs work equally well in women.

There have been no studies of statin drugs in women and it is known that the bodies of women function differently from those of a man. In addition to this lack of evidence, there is ample evidence of the harm done to men and women by statin drugs. This class of drugs blocks the action of HMG-CoA to reduce the creation of cholesterol in the liver. It also blocks the creation of Co Enzyme Q10 which is needed by every cell in the body to produce energy. This energy, there can be no muscle movement including the muscle known as the heart. There is

5 - A low fat diet improves your health.

Farmers that raise animals for food know that if you can get an animal to put on weight quickly there are more profits to be had from that animal. Over the years, research has shown how to make that happen. You place the animal in a small pens so they can not run an exercise, then you change their diet to be primarily carbohydrates with minimal fats. In short you place the animals on a low Fat diet. Is it any wonder that our population has steadily become more obese since the introduction of propaganda extolling the benefits of a low-fat diet in humans.

6 -You can get all the Vitamins and Minerals in the food you eat and its corollary, taking vitamin pills only creates expensive urine.

In our grandfathers and grandmothers time, it was possible to get most of the nutrients we need daily from food; however, since the advent of industrial farming the quality of all foods has gone down. This drop occurred because we changed the way we grow food. Instead of using animal manure with all its varied nutrients as fertilizer we manufacture fertilizer from petroleum. This fertilizer has the nutrients the plants need, but is missing the trace minerals that humans need that were perviously carried by the plants. To add to those problems we are spraying farmland with glyphosate, a weed killer. While it does reduce the need for tilling the soil thus preventing much erosion, it also kills the bacteria in the soil. This bacteria is needed to break down the soil so the plants can pick up the minerals from the soil. Finally, much of the food is then ultra-processed which destroys much of the remaining nutrition.

8 - Brain problems like depression are caused by an imbalance in brain chemicals.

This idea was created on-the-fly so to speak to explain to doctors how the selective Serotonin Re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) known as Proasc® actually worked. At the time this seemed like a good explanation, but there was no science behind the propaganda. It is now known that the SSRI molecule is too large to cross the blood-brain barrier so it can never enter the brain and this can not change any chemical in the brain. This is well described in the literature yet nearly every doctor and lay person repeats this myth as fact.

There are many more, but this list is all I have time for at the moment.
